Using the Windows Hotkey in Remote Desktop on OS X. I spend a lot of my day in Microsoft Remote Desktop Client for Mac OS X (RDC). Normally when managing Windows servers I use WIN-R to pull up the “Run” command and WIN-E to open Explorer windows.
What's new in this version For details about what's new in this and previous updates, see Features:. Connection display name is now more discoverable. Bug fixes:. Fixed a crash when closing the client window while a connection is still active. Fixed hang when reconnecting after the client is minimized.
Allow desktops to be dragged anywhere in a group. Ensure launching a connection from the jumplist results in a separate window when needed.
Additional bug fixes. Submitted on 7/3/2017 Review title of AdvancedNo copy/paste between desktops I had a major issue with Microsofts regular desktop remote desktop and using a 4k monitor connecting to a 2008 windows server. The UI and text were incredibly small.
This App resolved that issue as I can set the resolution. The app is a bit slow, but it does the job. The reason for downgrading stars is that I cannot copy and paste from the network computer to my local computer.
This can be done with the desktop version and I'm hoping they add to the app soon. So even though I can do everyting in the app, I still need to use the desktop version to retrieve my files. Submitted on 2/14/2017 Review title of ScottGreat when it works I love how easy it is to change the screen size but the program has been is now suffering from a strange issue that seems to be associated with the citrix receiver desktop application.
If I go into my citrix receiver session while this is open, remote desktop magnifies and refuses to get any smaller, if you click the magnification button it just gets bigger! I have to close the application are reopen it in order to fix it. This is extremely frustrating. This just started happening this week. Submitted on 1/12/2018 Review title of NathanielRDP display scaling doesn't dynamically update I frequently switch between my monitor (34', 3440x1440) which is best used with display scaling set to 100% and my laptop display (13', 3200x1800) which is best used with scaling set to 200%.
The Remote Desktop app does not update the 'Change the size of the display' setting to compensate for the resolution differences between the displays, in either case of a new connection or resizing an existing one. The behavior almost seems like a bug, because on a new connection I can manually select the highest available RDP resolution, drag the display scaling slider to the desired setting, then change resolution back to 'Choose for me' and the display scaling setting sticks. This issue aside, I love using the new RDP app and would give it five stars otherwise. Submitted on 2/6/2017 Review title of HowardMuch Better Much better after most recent update. Can now organize connections into groups.
Only one more thing. Ability to open multiple windows so I can have to sessions open on two different monitors at the same time. Fix that, and this one is a 5-star! As far as functionality - this is an awesome app for Windows 10. As a former user of Remote Desktop Connection Manager, which didn't work so well on my Surface Book, I was very happy to find this app.
Watch out - the (version 2.1.1) that comes with Mac Microsoft Office 2011 no longer works with Windows 2012 R2 (it does work with plain old Windows 2012). For me it fails with the following error message: Remote Desktop Connection cannot verify the identity of the computer that you want to connect to. A (regular) Windows 2012 Remote Desktop client doesn't have this problem. (Brief aside - Microsoft have a little note that says the 2.1.1 client is not supported on OS X v10.7 or later. Who knew and why did it make me report all those crashes?) The good news is that the 8.0.24091 (Mac App store only though - grr) does work with Windows 2012 R2. Why this information isn't listed on the What's New in 2012 R2 Remote Services page I don't know. (If you wish to make the old client work you can follow the or try the (please someone edit this answer)).
According to Microsoft's, the Remote Desktop Connection client for Mac was last updated on 5/5/2011, over 2 years ago. As it says, 'Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac (version 2.1.1) is not intended for use with Mac OS X v10.7 (Lion) or later.' Also note that that page does not list Windows Server 2012 at all under the 'System Requirements.' I would suggest using a newer client (e.g. I use which supports OS X 10.5-10.8), as there may be unexpected behavior from using Microsoft's old software.
